Getting Ready For Pentecost

Getting ready for Pentecost.

Holman Christian Standard Bible

Luke24:32 So they said to each other, “Weren’t our hearts ablaze within us while He was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us?”

As we look back past Easter and the death and resurrection of Christ.

Exodus 12 Holman Christian Standard Bible verses 1thru 14

1 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt:

2 “This month is to be the beginning of months for you; it is the first month of your year.

3 Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month they must each select an animal of the flock according to their fathers’ households, one animal per household.

4 If the household is too small for a whole animal, that person and the neighbor nearest his house are to select one based on the combined number of people; you should apportion the animal according to what each person[a] will eat.

5 You must have an unblemished animal, a year-old male; you may take it from either the sheep or the goats.

6 You are to keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembly of the community of Israel will slaughter the animals at twilight.

7 They must take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses where they eat them.

8 They are to eat the meat that night; they should eat it, roasted over the fire along with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

9 Do not eat any of it raw or cooked in boiling[b] water, but only roasted over fire—its head as well as its legs and inner organs.

10 Do not let any of it remain until morning; you must burn up any part of it that does remain before morning.

11 Here is how you must eat it: you must be dressed for travel, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. You are to eat it in a hurry; it is the Lord’s Passover.

12 “I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night and strike every firstborn male in the land of Egypt, both man and beast. I am Yahweh; I will execute judgments against all the gods of Egypt.

13 The blood on the houses where you are staying will be a distinguishing mark for you; when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No plague will be among you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt

.14 “This day is to be a memorial for you, and you must celebrate it as a festival to the Lord. You are to celebrate it throughout your generations as a permanent statute.

*Passover reminds us of the Sacrifice of Christ the Lamb of God.

*The covering of His blood equals forgiveness of sin.

*The leaving of Egypt, the leaving this world of sin. As we remember these things each Easter. there is a time that is not mentioned much.

Rick Marshall author of over 75 books and an editor for many more, once stated. “One of the most significant periods of the church calendar and the least celebrated or noted is the 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead.”

I read that and totally agree, this period was a prep for Pentecost or in the Hebrew Shauvoth. He walked eh taught, he healed he proved himself alive.

The Emmaus Disciples

Luke 24

13 Now that same day two of them were on their way to a village called Emmaus, which was about seven miles from Jerusalem.

14 Together they were discussing everything that had taken place.

15 And while they were discussing and arguing, Jesus Himself came near and began to walk along with them.

16 But they were prevented from recognizing Him.

17 Then He asked them, “What is this dispute that you’re having[g] with each other as you are walking?” And they stopped walking and looked discouraged.

18 The one named Cleopas answered Him, “Are You the only visitor in Jerusalem who doesn’t know the things that happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” He asked them.

So, they said to Him, “The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a Prophet powerful in action and speech before God and all the people,

20 and how our chief priests and leaders handed Him over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified Him.

21 But we were hoping that He was the One who was about to redeem Israel. Besides all this, it’s the third day since these things happened.

22 Moreover, some women from our group astounded us. They arrived early at the tomb,

23 and when they didn’t find His body, they came and reported that they had seen a vision of angels who said He was alive.

24 Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they didn’t see Him.”

25 He said to them, “How unwise and slow you are to believe in your hearts all that the prophets have spoken!

26 Didn’t the Messiah have to suffer these things and enter into His glory?”

27 Then beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted for them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.

28 They came near the village where they were going, and He gave the impression that He was going farther.

29 But they urged Him: “Stay with us, because it’s almost evening, and now the day is almost over.” So, He went in to stay with them.

30 It was as He reclined at the table with them that He took the bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.

31 Then their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him, but He disappeared from their sight.

32 So they said to each other, “Weren’t our hearts ablaze within us while He was talking with us on the road and explaining the Scriptures to us

Luke 24 :46 He also said to them, “This is what is written: The Messiah would suffer and rise from the dead the third day, 47 and repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And look, I am sending you what My Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”

Hearts ablaze, spend time with Christ, set your heart on fire

Be hold I send the promise you go wait till you get it.

We need to spend more time in prayer getting ready for his burning words in our hearts.

Matthew 28:18-20 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus Said “All power(authority ) has been given to me

Go teach, Go Baptize, Make disciples

Acts 1 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)4 While He was together[a] with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise. “This,” He said, “is what you heard from Me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

YOU GO WAIT FOR THE PROMISE

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

YOU WILL RECEIVE POWER  YOU WILL BE WITNESSNESS

MARK 16:14 Later, He appeared to the Eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw Him after He had been resurrected. 15 Then He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; 18 they will pick up snakes; if they should drink anything deadly, it will never harm them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will get well.”

Go preach…. teach, witness, heal, deliver.

JOHN21:24 This is the disciple who testifies to these things and who wrote them down. We know that his testimony is true.

25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the SCROLLS that would be written.

THESE TEACHINGS WERE IMPORTANT

THEASE 40 DAYS WERE VERY IMPORTANT

Paul writes

1 Corinthians 15:3-7 Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

3 For I passed on to you as most important what I also received:

that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4 that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the Twelve.

6 Then He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time;

most of them are still alive, but some have fallen asleep.

7 Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.

It was so important that Flavius Josephus a first century scholar mentions it.

Then later about 300 ad. Eusebius of Caesarea, also called Eusebius Pamphili, bishop and historian whose account of the first centuries of Christianity, in his Ecclesiastical History, is a landmark in Christian historiography. Talks about the Lord teaching in this 40-day period.

AS we Prepare our hearts for Pentecost. The shadows of the old, bear witness to the new.

The Passover.

The leaving of Egypt. the leaving behind of this world.

The visual glory of God, in the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire.

Hinting to the power of the wind and fire of the spirit.

Luke 24:32 did not our heart s burn.

Where there IS a  burning heart when  God speaks miracles will happen.

That burning comes from intense prayer, dedication.
